The most fun, what we enjoy most, is the trip toward our goals. And that's where all the joy comes from. Mountain climbers actually enjoy the climb. Once they're on top they can congratulate themselves, enjoy the view, and rest awhile β and then begin climbing back down. But it's the climbing that's the fun for them. Once they've reached the top, they look for new mountains to climb.
Now that should be the story of your life. It's the story of the successful man or woman. The fun, the joy, the challenge is in the climb, and that's why successful men and women tend to be happy people. As the young salesman said, "If you were doing what I'm doing on the road toward what I'm becoming, you'd be cheerful all the time too." He was in the process of climbing his mountain.
Successful people are not people without problems; they're people who've learned to solve their problems.
Now let's make sure that you're in the process of climbing your mountain too, just as I'm in the process of climbing mine. Everybody who becomes a successful person chooses his or her own mountain. Some of them are like Mount Everest β they tower incredibly high and are very difficult to climb. Most of them are somewhat smaller and in the beginning especially easier to climb. That's fine. It's the mountain that's important, not its size.
When you run into difficulties, think of them as challenges to be overcome. Difficulties are part of the game, just as in mountain climbing. They're there to test your skill, your brains, your ability to solve problems. Successful people are not people without problems; they're people who've learned to solve their problems. And so will you.
